The Art of Construction
This project was a learning experience on multiple levels. The objective was to learn how to utilize a compass to create a design that displays geometric shapes. In doing so, I gained insight on how the Greeks designed accurately only using a straight edge and a compass. By using those tools I learned how to think about constructing arguments and proofs. In the resulting work for my design I was able to create a masterpiece quality work.
For my first benchmark for this project I used a ruler and a compass to create a ruff sketch of what I wanted my construction to maybe loo like. The requirements
were to have a circle, a square, an equilateral triangle, a regular polygon, and a rosette or a petal flower. This image isobviously not symmetrical or constructed as it was just a sketch but I still used a compass to make the outer circle and the eight small half circles. I drew this image because I was inspired by a mandala I saw on the internet that had the Star of David on it. |
